The major tourist areas in Nepal offer a wide range of hotels resorts, and lodges with different specialty starting from budget class to deluxe and luxurious categories with respective price differences and standards to meet the needs of the tourists with great hospitality. However, in less crowded tourist areas options of small hotels and home-stay facilities are in operation that gives travellers an opportunity to know the local people and their traditional, in fact, the real Nepal.
City Accommodation
Accommodation on arrival day, tour and sight seeing days and most of the return or last day of the trek are accommodated in the cities. So, DA will provide accommodation in cities under these three package catoriges as Diamond, Gold and Silver.
Diamond pacakge types hotels: This type of DA package basically provides 5 star hotels rooms which will give us highest level of accommodation and personal services available in Nepal with a little extra creature comfort, a little extra style or at good location with swimming pools which are a rare feature in Nepal hotels.
Gold package types hotels: This type of DA packages basically provides 3 star hotels rooms which will give us a sufficient medium level of comfort and convenience. Most of the Nepal accommodation falls into this category: small-scale with authentic Nepalese charm and a welcoming atmosphere. We can expect a mid-range resort or hotel with medium sized restarurant which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Silver Package Hotel Types: This type of DA packages basically provides budget tourist standart hotels rooms which will give us a basic level of accommodation and services that a tourist need. Hotel are usually small to medium sized and amd cpmvemiently located to modrate price amenities. Furnishings and facilities are clean but basic.
Accommodation provided to DA guest during trekking are almost similar all the time, however according to your choosen package type there might be some chances to choose some extra luxury lodges in the lower elevation for first few days. Accommodation is commonly know as tea house or lodge with food in the trekking region and “hotel” is more common word for restarurant or eating place rather than place to sleep. These lodge or tea house accommodation are on twin shares basis and single rooms might be rare as we gain some altitude. DA guides will try our best to find the rooms with attached washroom, but shared washing and toilet facilities are normal in many lodges. The lodge are runned by its owner and family members and they expect us to eat where we stay. Most of the lodges are open throught out the year where as some lodges in lower altitude and most of the lodges at higher altidude are closed for couple of month during winter.
All lodge provide us rooms with two single hard wooden beds and a thin foam mattress with bedsheet, pillow and blankets however, we recommend you to carry own sleeping bags if you are sensitive with the cold and hygiene issues. There might be some basic furniture like a small table or a chair, shelf or a hooks to hang your cloths. Windows and door probably have a simple curtain placed and most of the doors will be provided with a padlock for security concern, some bring their own to be more secured.
Lodges take compete attention of your stomach with offerings of cake, pie, pizza, steaks, tacos, enchiladas and spaghetti bolognaise among few with the different taste from place to place even of same food. Dinning in the lodge will be in a large open hall with tables around and dung burning fire in the middle to heat the whold lodge so, choosing a close place to fire would be wise. Some lodges above 4,500 m might be over booked and we might need to share the dinning hall with other trekkers, guides and porters in some case. Luckely you might get a room with plugs and if not the communal hall will provide you with the charging multiplugs where some lodges might take an hourly charge in higher altitude. Paid wifi might be available which might work only in this dinning hall area only. Some places like Namche Bazzar in Everest region and Manang in Annaourna region will serve you a choices of bakery products too.
In the high land of the Himalayan country we will get a very basic kind of toilet and bathroom facilities which might be weird too. In the lower elevation, most of the lodges offer western style toilet commonly know as English style toilets but as we move higher we will have to face the squat toilet facilities also know as Nepali style toilet with manual flushing and eventually long drops. Health and hygiene will not be compromised but we will not expect a toilet paper roll in most of the toilets. Some time we might need to experience to squat in the small wooden and stone hut just behind the lodge with a hole in the floor above a deep pit. We also need to be prepared to go outside in the middle of the freezing night to use them and ignore the awkward moment. Bathing in the outdoor taps are very common in the hills with a tin bucket of freezing cold water and hot shower may turn out to be a bucket of luke warm water. Some guest is more excited with such bath however, it is not advisable to take.
