Guides & Porters

We basically have two types of guide who will be guiding you in Nepal - Tourist Guide for city tours and Trekking guide for trekking trails. Our both Guides are experienced and highly skilled professionals who have been selected based on their technical proficiency, proven safety records, careful judgment on location, confidence, honest, supportive and patient with great personalities. Among them most are locals where our guest will be spending their holiday, so that they will assist you to understand their local cultures which will make their stay in Nepal memorable. Tour Guide must have a Tour Guide Training in Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management after a bachelor’s degree. Likewise, Trekking Guide must have a Trekking Guide Tranning in Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management after 10+2 and 2 years experience in any trekking agencies of Nepal. He/ She than gets a Tour Guide or Trekking Guide license with the language skill mentioned in it from Department of Tourism. There are climbing, River Rafting and Expedition guides with licenses who are trained in relative field. 

A tour guide from DA understands well English language and will be responsible to explain all the heritages sites, history, culture, art, architecture, lifestyle, cuisines, museum and the city like Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan, Lumbini, Tansen. He/ She also assist you in inter city highway and hotel check in and check out, best places for lunch and dinner along with the best shooping sites in the town. He/ She can do hiking around the cities too. If you have choosen any of the trekking packages than DA Trekking guide will assist you to follow the trail and get best resturants for hygienic lunch and safe and comfortable rooms in the lodge during the trek. They will also be responsible to make the permits and TIMS details registered in every police check points. Apart from showing you the trail, they will explain you about the local lifestyles, cultures and names of the mountains. They will also explain you about the religion, temples, monasteries, geography, local floras and faunas, teach you Nepali Language, share and participate you in their festivals. DA Trekking guide will speak good English language and will have full knowledge of trekking routes, first air, national parks, conservation and environmental rules. Sometimes some security issues may arise in remote parts so guide will help keep an eye on you and your belongings. Regarding outdoor safety, your guide will know the routes, conditions, and health concerns, among other things. There will be an assistant trekking guide for a group above 8 trekkers.  

 

Every evening out guide wil invite you a short briefing about your schedules for next day. The brefing would likely be like the destination for tomorrow, places to visit likely distance to be travelled, mojor points of attractions, spot weather changes along all other relevant details. This time will be perfect to discuss about the day spent, which might help the remaining trekking days go smoother.  Guides will be cooperative enlightening you about the cultural and traditions importance of the places. They can be more fruitful to ask about the religions, local people ethnic groups, their customs and traditions. You can have insight to the history of various places and their civilization.

 

All DA guides are well paid, insured well and covered for medical and rescue/evacuation. We make sure that our guides are well equipped with warm clothes and good shoes. They are also provided with adequate shelter, food and drinks during trek. However, tips are expected after they offer their best service eventhough it is unfamiliar due to our culture and shy nature. You may find that they stuff the envelope or gratuity into their pocket without counting or acknowledging it in form of you because they don’t want to come across as greedy. Worn out and old clothes or goods are not easily excepted and it may turn out to be humiliating guides.
