Everest Region or Khumbu Region is located in northeast part of Nepal which is a dream land for hikers, trekkers and climbers ever since the Mt. Everest was first summited in 1953 AD by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa. This region is more than just trekking, it is a milestone in anyone’s life; and some have even described the experience as a journey close to Nirvana. The prime attraction of Everest region trekking is the Mt. Everest (8,848m) also called Sagarmatha in Nepali is the highest peak in the world. It is also the home to two eight thousand Cho Oyu (8,201m) and Lhotse (8,516m) besides several other famous peaks above 6,000m. Apart from a fantastic array of snow giants and world class hiking trails, the Everest region trekking is also popular for the legendary hospitality of the local Sherpa people. This area also has the first national park of Nepal with an area of 1,148 sq. km and with elevation from 3,300 m to 8,848 m as Sagarmatha National Park which has been declared as UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site since 1979 AD. The region has been valued as the key to evolutionary history of the Earth, and is also a habitat for some rare and endangered species like snow leopard, red panda, Himalayan black bear, musk deer and Himalayan wolves along with the musk deer, Ghoral and Himalayan Thar. There is a road to Jiri or Phaplu from where it’s a couple of days’ trek to reach Lukla airport also known as gate way to this region.
