The legendary Annapurna region, opened for foreigner since 1977 is the most diverse and most visited trekking area in Nepal perfect for both mountain and nature lover. These combination of snow-capped peaks, highest crystal clear blue lakes (Tilicho), chaotic rivers with deepest gorges in the world - Kali Gandakli, sacred Hindu temples like Muktinath, Buddhist monasteries, majestic sunshine view from Ghorepani Poon Hill view point, the natural hot springs, big wilderness plateau of Kagbeni – gate way to Mustang, Mustang places and Annapurna Base Camp views can be experienced from this region. Lifestyle and tradition of the inhabitants in Annapurna region is really fascinating. Even the remote villages in this trail offer sophisticated lodges and guest houses eagerly waiting to serve the tourists with enormous hospitality and friendliness by the major ethinic groups like Gurung, Magar, Thakali and Manangi. This region was the first Conservation Area and the largest protected area in Nepal with the project lunched in 1986 AD as Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) under National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC). It covers an area of 7,629 sq. km. and is home to over 100,000 residents of different cultural and linguistic groups. ACAP is rich in biodiversity and is a treasure house for 1,226 species of flowering plants, 102 mammals, 474 birds, 39 reptiles and 22 amphibians. The area ranges in altitude from 790 m to the peak of Annapurna I at 8,091 m. Pokhara, described as the land of the dreams or paradise city of Nepal is some how related to the entry or exit of this region.
